Northants
General
Hospital
expects to acquire Foundation (semi-independent but still NHS) status
next April. This change (that is inclusion in the second round
of Foundations) reflects the hospital's fairly good performance
reports. It will give some financial independence and should
improve both services and responsiveness to local needs. As part
of this they expect to form a hierarchy of consultative bodies of
which the largest is a 'Members' group which they hope will have about
3000 ordinary public members - this will not meet often (maybe
once/year - no fee but expenses covered) but will have power, in
particular electing (by post) key members of the 33-person Governor's
Council (a bit like school governing bodies).
For this members group volunteers are needed!
In particular we on the Parish Council are concerned that there be
sufficient representation of rural issues at all levels. We had
a presentation from the trust tonight and as a result are encouraging
all locals to volunteer for the members group. Anyone from
16-150 is eligible! You can fill in an interest form
online:-
www.northamptongeneral.nhs.uk/nghf/default.aspx
(there is a rather inobvious checkbox 'I am interested in becoming a
member of NGH's new NHS Foundation Trust' which you need to say yes
to!).
If you volunteer it is not a big commitment and you can really make a
difference! They are well short of the 3000 at present, and
particularly need rural representation - which is why we are
encouraging you! You need not feel that you are a representative
- just act as a local person.
